Kateri to be canonized

Bl. Kateri Tekakwitha will become St. Kateri Tekakwitha on Oct. 21, 2012 when she is canonized by Pope Benedict. As yet we are unaware of any celebrations in our area. If we learn of any we will post them here.

Wonderful Christmas

We had a good turnout at Midnight Mass at Sturgeon Lake First Nation. Fr Travis Myrheim joined us at the school gym which turned out to be a great place for our celebration. It was beautifully decorated, and Danny Moosehunter had everything setup in advance. We had a wonderful celebration of our Saviour’s birth.

On Christmas day we joined the folks at the Community Christmas Dinner. We saw many people we knew there and stayed for about three hours. There was a record turnout this year with about 1800 people there. WOW.

We then went out to Sturgeon Lake and joined the folks at the Hall who were celebrating the Sturgeon Lake Community Christmas Dinner and ate again, and again when they had a traditional meal with a choice of moose heart soup or rabbit soup. Yumm it was good. We ended the day with a round dance. What a great Christmas.

Christmas Happenings

Tonight we will be joining friends at Sturgeon Lake First Nation for Midnight Mass. Fr. Travis Myrheim will be joining us at the school gym for Mass. Tomorrow we will join friends at St. Mary High School for the annual Prince Albert Community Christmas Dinner.

Homelessness in Prince Albert

Tonight I had to leave a homeless man to sleep “in the bush” in town, watched him climb a slope and disappear in the brush, then went home to my warm house. Temperatures tonight are supposed to be around -7 degrees C. Brother Roy and I have had to deal with a lot of homelessness during this past month. There really aren’t any alternatives to explore anymore. We have tried all the options, and are finding no resources.

Easter 2011 at Sturgeon Lake SK

We had a beautiful celebration with Holy Cross Catholic community at Sturgeon Lake today — Mass (which we don’t have very often) with lots of kids present, two baptisms with the children’s great grandparents on both sides present. All followed by a turkey dinner for the whole congregation, and an Easter egg hunt for the kids (and kids at heart). Couldn’t have been better! Some pics…
