MISSION STATEMENT
Kateri’s Companions in Ministry is a lay mission association of women and men who discern a call to service among First Nations people in Canada.
OUR WAY OF LIFE INCLUDES
- An apostolic spirituality within the Roman Catholic Church, expressed in a variety of ministry and support services, showing forth the gospel by practical persevering love
- Following the leading of God’s Spirit as discerned in community
- Celibate living (for single members with permanent commitment, or for associates who are single)
- We express our mission of hope and healing in culturally appropriate, holistic pastoral care.
- We accompany individuals, families and communities on their journeys of healing and spiritual growth.
- We focus on those least served by church and society.
- We minister in teams whenever possible.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Practising member of the Roman Catholic Church
- At least 24 years of age
- Free from family obligations
- Free from financial obligations
- Commitment to hearing and living the Word of God
- Maturity, common sense, a sense of humour, patience, flexibility, willingness to learn
- Ability to take initiative, accept responsibility, work as part of a team
- Familiarity with First Nations communities and/or willingness to learn
- Aboriginal ancestry an asset
- Willingness to adapt to cross-cultural living and ministry
Talents and experience in any area of life and work can be put at the service of mission!
TIME FRAME AND RELATED DATES
- Negotiable
- Ongoing “intake”
FORMATION
- Training for mission takes place primarily by working alongside an experienced missionary.
- In house and online studies expected to be part of formation
- Each person’s formation plan is developed on the basis of his/her unique background and situation.
FINANCES AND REMUNERATION
- We can provide room and board and a small stipend.
- Basic health benefits are provided by the provincial government.
PLACEMENT
- Residence in Prince Albert SK during formation
- Ministry on an apprenticeship basis, in Prince Albert and/or surrounding small communities of Cree or Métis people, during formation
- Residence and ministry, in teams of two, in small northern First Nations communities, when formation is completed.
